Summary

It's a club like no other。 Only the most important women receive an invitation。 But one daring young reporter is about to infiltrate this female-run secret society, whose beguiling members are caught up in a dark and treacherous business。

For years, rumors have swirled about an exclusive, women-only social club where the elite tastemakers of NYC meet。 People in the know whisper all sorts of claims: Membership dues cost $1,000 a month。 Last time Rihanna was in town, she stopped by and got her aura read。 The women even handpicked the city's first female mayor。 But no one knows for sure。

That is, until journalist Jillian Beckley decides she's going to break into the club。 With her career in freefall, Jillian needs a juicy scoop, and she has a personal interest in bringing these women down。 But the deeper she gets into this new world--where billionaire "girlbosses" mingle with the astrology-obsessed--the more Jillian learns that bad things happen to those who dare to question the club's motives or giggle at its outlandish rituals。

The select group of women who populate the club may be far more powerful than she ever imagined。

And far more dangerous too。

Meh。 I LOVED Happy And You Know It, but just couldn’t vibe with this one。

I know they say don’t judge a book by the cover, but as soon as I say this cover with its glorious title and captivating description, I knew this book was for me! Laura wrote a hilarious, witty book that takes readers on a freaking JOURNEY! And I loved every single part of it! The characters in this book shine along with a plot I could’ve never predicted。 I was up until 3:30 am finishing this book and I have zero regrets!

Uhhh, what the hell。 This book was NOT for me, I almost DNF about 82 times because my eyes were hurting from rolling so much。 There were so many praises that it was genre blending done right, but I’m having a hard time even figuring out what ones - fantasy? YA? Mystery??? And Jillian, my GOD。 She was f’ing insufferable- whiney, talking about how much she needs to have sex every time she even looks at a male (seriously, I do *not* care), her ridiculous inner dialogue & bratty attitude。 Also if I Uhhh, what the hell。 This book was NOT for me, I almost DNF about 82 times because my eyes were hurting from rolling so much。 There were so many praises that it was genre blending done right, but I’m having a hard time even figuring out what ones - fantasy? Like, I can see the potential but the execution was definitely not there。 Honestly I don’t even want to waste anymore energy on this review lol if witches, bad dialogue, an audiobook narrator who is smiling the whole time she’s reading (why was this so frustrating for me???), a terrible attempt at a love triangle and “feminism” is up your alley maybe you’ll enjoy this one。 1。5 stars only because of Libby and her sweet persona。 。。。more

This book had strong similarities to Hankin’s first book (our main character being welcomed into a group of Elite Ladies where she doesn’t fit in and she quickly finds there is more brewing beneath the group’s surface)。 It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I just found it interesting how similar the overall premises were。 But I think I liked Jillian as a main character more than her previous main character。The plot twist was reminiscent to me of the twist in Mexican Gothic。 Not that they’re sim This book had strong similarities to Hankin’s first book (our main character being welcomed into a group of Elite Ladies where she doesn’t fit in and she quickly finds there is more brewing beneath the group’s surface)。 It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I just found it interesting how similar the overall premises were。 But I think I liked Jillian as a main character more than her previous main character。The plot twist was reminiscent to me of the twist in Mexican Gothic。 Not that they’re similar in content, but that it felt like it came suddenly and turned the entire story on its head。 One thing I really like about both of Hankin’s books is the undercurrent of female friendship that withstands all of the events thrown at the characters。 3/5 。。。more

This book was super engaging and I know that there’s definitely an audience that will LOVE the twist in this, but that’s not me。 It’s definitely fun and I think even if you’re like me and the twist isn’t exactly your cup of tea, you’ll still have a good time。

I'll be honest, I started reading this book strictly because of all the hype it was getting。 I mean don't get me wrong the synopsis drew me in a bit more, but overall I was hype chasing。 Through that hype chasing I ran right into the arms of a book I loved, adored, will re-read, and will endlessly recommend。 If you're reading my review then you have already read the synopsis, so I'm not writing you another。 I will say this。 This book is magic。 It had my stomach in knots and my mind trying to sol I'll be honest, I started reading this book strictly because of all the hype it was getting。 I mean don't get me wrong the synopsis drew me in a bit more, but overall I was hype chasing。 Through that hype chasing I ran right into the arms of a book I loved, adored, will re-read, and will endlessly recommend。 If you're reading my review then you have already read the synopsis, so I'm not writing you another。 I will say this。 This book is magic。 It had my stomach in knots and my mind trying to solve the puzzles it was laying out。 Jillian truly had me stressing out time and time again, but I loved that our personalities were opposites。 The way her character navigated things is nothing like I would have thought or chosen but it made for a book I couldn't put down。 Through every twist and turn A Special Place for Women was drawing me into a maze, that at it's center had me feeling strangely empowered。 Normally hype chasing only leaves me empty and annoyed but I should have known by the title and the cover this book would become one I loved。 12 stars or 5 or whatever, a lot。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I wanted to love this book and was so excited to get it from the library first! I was so interested in the concept and there was so much to be explored there but it never took off and actually took a weird twist。 Both of those ideas could have made amazing stories (the upper crest of women pulling the political strings and then the three granddaughters in a coven)。 It should have been categorized as YA at the very least。

I read it in one sitting, as I work a job where I have to keep myself occupied for twelve hours。 It was ok。 It kept me intrigued enough to keep reading, but I was not on the edge of my seat。 It was ok but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone。

I loved this book。 I can honestly say I was very surprised at where the plot went。 At first, I rolled my eyes and felt like the story was about to get strange, maybe pointless。 But it stayed good and interesting until the end。 Can’t wait to read more from this author。

I don’t even know where to begin on this suspenseful, genre bending story of a secret society of elite women called Nevertheless。 The main character, Jillian, definitely doesn’t belong but is determined to become a member of Nevertheless so she can reveal all their secrets & tear them down。 She can be a bit unlikeable at times but overall is extremely relatable if you’ve ever been torn between decisions, struggled with your relationships, or just wanted to belong。This book takes a peek at perfor I don’t even know where to begin on this suspenseful, genre bending story of a secret society of elite women called Nevertheless。 The main character, Jillian, definitely doesn’t belong but is determined to become a member of Nevertheless so she can reveal all their secrets & tear them down。 She can be a bit unlikeable at times but overall is extremely relatable if you’ve ever been torn between decisions, struggled with your relationships, or just wanted to belong。This book takes a peek at performative feminism, but is so much more than that。 There’s mystery, twists, romance, and WTF-are-you-serious moments。 Reading this story, you want to keep going to find out what the secrets are and what Jillian will decide。 I felt torn right alongside her with each hard decision - you’re immersed in her character through her inner thoughts and split emotions。 I haven’t read Hankin’s previous novel, but I loved her writing and am putting it high on my TBR。 I love that this book is so unique from other stories & recommend reading it if you love to switch it up between genres and enjoy having your mind twisted up in intrigue。 。。。more

I liked the idea of this book more than its execution。 The first half was intriguing enough with the set-up: our intrepid girl reporter (I say “girl” because she never felt like a fully realized woman to me) decides to infiltrate this secret organization of elitist white feminists to uncover the nefarious things they do to assert their power and influence。 The group itself does appear to be both superficial and creepy at the same time。 And then in the second half of the book a major twist occurs I liked the idea of this book more than its execution。 The first half was intriguing enough with the set-up: our intrepid girl reporter (I say “girl” because she never felt like a fully realized woman to me) decides to infiltrate this secret organization of elitist white feminists to uncover the nefarious things they do to assert their power and influence。 The group itself does appear to be both superficial and creepy at the same time。 And then in the second half of the book a major twist occurs and the rest of the story devolves into unrealistic fantasy。 。。。more

I wanted to love this book, I really really did。 But man, it took a weird turn and I just couldn’t get behind it。 It all seemed very very far fetched。 The end wrapped up a little too quickly for me, I just didn’t buy it or like it。

Probably not, but if anything I’ve said so far peaks your interest then you may also find yourself going down the rabbit hole of this special place for women。 Maybe you’ll end up rooting for the exclusive secret society or wishing it would all burn down to the ground。 Recommend for: Readers that liked The Hunting Wives, like Willow by Taylor Swift, want an interesting take on women in politics 。。。more

2。5 Basic forgettable chicklit。 The main character wasn’t very likable but it was entertaining enough for a long car ride or two。 Shows a lot of one dimensional characters and plays on negative female stereotypes。

I liked the tone of this book - fun, snarky, not sure just who to root for, and overall the story was very readable and if it ended a little too tidily, it was a satisfying little bow。

So I couldn’t write my review immediately after finishing this book。 I needed to sit with it。I’m so glad I read it。 Hankin is a phenomenal writer and her stories just capture me。 Without spoiling the book, I will only say that I didn’t see it coming。 Even today - after sitting with it。 I’m still a bit in shock! lol!
